Specific to the job:

The job requires a range of technical knowlege from creating a blog, managing databases and emails as well as recording talking books and informing people on how to use the CD. Employers will value technical knowledge as it will mean that you are able to carry out these tasks, you will not need to be trained as you already know how to carry out these tasks.


The job will require you to send emails to clients and staff. This will require good communication skills, you will need to have basic English to create appropiate emails for customers and staff to understand. This will also be useful when creating a blog as you will need to write posts in proper English so that people can understand. You will need to have basic knowledge on how to create a blog in order to make a professional looking blog for the charity. This can include how to customize the blog as well as how to upload pictures and videos when needed.


For this job you will also need some knowledge on databases such as how to create and edit a database. This will be helpful when it comes to managing the list of clients, staff and volenters as well as the schedule for staff and volonteers.


Knowing how to record audio and burning it onto a CD will also be useful in this job as you will need to record “talking books” and put the audio onto a CD. You must also be able to explain to clients who have sight problems how to use a CD. This will require good comunication skills as it will be difficult for them to see what you are doing, you must be able to explain in detail how to use the CD.

A general attribute that you will need to work at Rainbow Lights is being able to work in a team. You will need this attribute as you will be working along side others in order to make the best possible CD for the clients the company has. You will have to work with others to be able to record the reading of the book, taking on others suggestions when reading the book, such as some novels may require voices to be read out.


Team working will also improve your communication skills which will allow you to work with customers in a more professional way. This will help the company as you will know how to communicate properly and professionally which will make the company seem more professional.


Being able to work within a team allows you to improve on other skills such as leadership skills, communication skills and work management. These are very important skills to have in any work place as you need to be able to take the lead and this skill will help you if you go for a promotion in the future as job importance grows so does your leadership. This will also help if you ever wish to become a manager of a company or decide to start up your own business.

Personal Attributes:


Being determined is a very good attribute to have when working for a charity as you will need to get the work done without getting distracted for the people depending on the charity. Determanation is a very important attribute to have as it will make you want to do your best in everything you do and to get your work in on time. This is needed when working for a charity like Rainbow Lights as people depend on this charity to suply them with audiobooks.

A determined person will be able to get their work completed on time and to a high level of quality if they put their mind to it. If in a team, one determined person can help others get focused and determined in order for them to complete their work on time as well. This is why employers look for people who are determined.


Another personal attribute that employers look for is tolerance. It is important to be tolerant as you can not lose your temper at small problems, you need to have the tolerance to work through the problem and fix it. This particular attribute would be very important when working at a charity such as Rainbow Lights as there could be problems with the recording equipment and you must be tolerant in order to try and fix the problem.


You will also need to be tolerant to the clients that the charity has as they have hearing problems so need to be treated with respect. People who have little tolerance level may lose pacients with the clients and get mad. You will also have to teach clients how to use the CD’s that you make, they may not understand what you are trying to explain to them the first few times. Therefore you need to be tolerant to be able to explain it without getting fed up or making the client feel like they are stupid that they do not understand no matter how simple the problem they are having is. Therefore tolerance will be a very valued attribute to have when working for this charity.
